This is a field trip to the Cairo Fossil Forest. Registration is required and the address will be provided to registrants only.

Attendees will meet at the Cairo quarry and see the fossil tree impressions exposed there. The fossil forest dates back 385 million years and is the oldest fossil forest in the world! There are at least two species of the earliest and most primitive types of trees currently known. We will also examine the overlying sedimentary bedrock and speculate about how these trees came to be preserved.
