The Arboretum’s bedrock geology records a great delta complex, the Catskill Delta, that once spread out beneath the rising mountains of New England. Those mountains were called the Acadians and they may have been as tall as today's Himalayas. The Delta was covered by rivers, bayous, lakes and ponds. Each of these accumulated sediments eventually hardened into the bedrock of the Catskills. We will learn about the Catskill Delta and then go out to explore the Arboretum’s geological history.
