Cost of Admission: Free

This is an in-person event. Registration required for 10 AM Opening Program Saturday.

Celebrate Schoharie Watershed Month with a biodiversity hunt on the grounds of Mountain Top Arboretum in Tannersville! From sunrise Friday to sunset Sunday, visitors can log their biodiversity sightings into a community science project on the iNaturalist mobile app to add a species to the tally.

On Saturday, May 13th, from 10am to 9pm, local experts on everything from moths to mushrooms will be in attendance to lead interpretive walks, offer guidance on identification, and assist contributors in adding their records to the database.

REgistration is required for the introductory session on Saturday, May 13, 10:00 - 11:00 am.

This event is a collaboration by Mountain Top Arboretum, Greene County Soil & Water, and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection as part of a month-long series of events for Schoharie Watershed Month.

About the Program Leader

Frank Beres is a naturalist from Port Ewen, New York and a water quality scientist for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection in the Catskill Watershed. His expertise is in the identification of aquatic insects and their roles as bioindicators of habitat quality. He has a special interest in documenting the Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies) of the Hudson Valley. Frank believes that appreciation for nature and biodiversity is inherent in everyone and is passionate about fostering such instincts through photos, outreach, and education. He leads up to a dozen local interpretive dragonfly walks each year to introduce others to the fascinating life that arises from freshwater.
